“The Surge movement accelerates the collective impact that African American and Latinx leaders have in the education ecosystem. Part of what distinguishes this movement is that it’s not merely placing minorities in leadership roles—it ensures that those in leadership roles are well equipped. It’s about developing leaders with vested interests in the communities they serve. That means strong leaders who are relatable, trusted, and can empathize. It means our scholars have leaders who look like them; and communities have leaders whom they trust—leaders who understand what they’ve been through and where they’ve come from. I’m dedicated to the Surge movement because success in this movement means success for the communities and populations we serve. My participation will help me make a more significant and sustainable impact in the communities I serve now and will continue to serve in the future.”
