Director, Diversity & Inclusiveness
Stacey D. Mitchell is the Senior Managing Director, Staff Diversity and Inclusiveness. She attended the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and graduated with distinction, earning a B.A. in English. Immediately following, she taught 6th grade Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies in Oxford, North Carolina through Teach For America. During her time there, she was a 3-time recipient of the A+ Award for Excellence in Teaching and a nominee for the DisneyHands Teacher Award for creativity.
Stacey was the subject of a public broadcasting special on teaching English Language Learners and the 2004-2005 Mary Potter Teacher of the Year. She has also worked as an editor for Scott Foresman on a reading program for students at least one grade-level behind and became a published author during her time there.
Stacey has served on Teach For America’s staff since 2006 and now leads staff diversity strategy. She has volunteered with Chicago’s youth and in her church’s nursery ministry and has served on the Teach for America-Chicago Alumni Executive Board. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Stacey now lives near Chicago with her family.
