2018 Surge Alumnus Liam Bird has accepted the role of Equity Policy Strategist (EPS) at Chicago Public Schools. In his new role, Liam will be responsible for conducting policy analysis reviews of existing school board policy, the Illinois School Code, city and state policies/practices, and district and school-based practices, to assess their impacts on schools and student outcomes by student classifications (i.e., race, class, and gender), paying special attention to policies and practices that disproportionally harm or have unintended efforts on students and schools. Liam will advocate, support, design and implement policy and practices that give considerable attention to least-served and underrepresented students while adhering to federal, local, and state regulations.
